Tech support staff enjoy bumper pay rises
Service desk staff saw their salaries increase by 7% this year as part of booming demand for talent in the technology sector.
Research of advertised job posts from Reed Global in 2017 indicates a shortage of helpdesk workers. While salaries across the technology sector increase by a modest 1.6%, the paucity of able technical support staff meant that their salary increases were par with the hikes given to business analysts and BI developers. For comparison, network engineers received 6% pay rises.
As the UK makes a name for itself as a tech heartland, companies want to recruit the best talent to do the highest quality work
Amid the gloom of Brexit, Andy Gardner of Reed Technology says we should celebrate the role of IT in driving the UK economy forward. “In 2016 there was £6.8 billion venture capital and private equity investment in UK tech – 50% higher than any other European country, and, as investment continues to grow, and the UK makes a name for itself as a tech heartland, companies want to recruit the best talent to do the highest quality work. As a result, hiring managers are asking their boards to commit more money towards recruitment of new staff, and that is reflected in the advertised salaries.”
Andy warns that businesses struggling to attract the most talented IT staff will have to increase salaries to combat demand.
